The Global Covenant of Mayors in Canada is a commitment made by countries in the region to face the challenge of climate change. The agreement was signed in 2015 during the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Paris and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote actions to adapt countries to the consequences of climate change.
The signatory countries of the pact pledged to elaborate national climate action plans, to establish emission reduction targets, and implement adaptation measures to minimize the impacts of climate change on their populations and ecosystems. In addition, the pact provides for the creation of mechanisms for cooperation and technology transfer between countries, seeking to promote sustainable development in the region and the protection of the environment. The effective implementation of these measures is essential to guarantee a safer and more sustainable future for the Americas and the World.
