Thanks to the leadership of the Mayor of Orangeville, Allison Myles was encouraged to apply to the Showcase Cities pilot early on into her term as the Climate Change Coordinator at the Town of Orangeville. The program’s in person meeting allowed Allison to develop a wide-ranging network of municipalities across the country whom she could reach out to for advice. The monthly meetings were a great opportunity to hear from the other participating municipalities about their successes and recommendations related to climate action.
The Town of Orangeville also benefited from one on one technical support provided by ICLEI Canada. ICLEI’s tailored support helped Allison achieve more GCoM badges than originally expected. The Town has now incorporated low carbon resiliency, which was something that wasn’t originally included in Allison’s mandate, but will provide multiple co-benefits for the community. Orangeville now has a strong base upon which it can build for future climate action.
“The tailored technical support provided by ICLEI was very valuable and has a monetary value for small municipalities. It was a huge perk.” Allison Myles, Town of Orangeville, ON
